If you’re a complete nerd/geek like me, you want your workouts not on outdated media, but streaming to a browser near you. Beachbody has come out with a new service called Beachbody on Demand. When you set up a BOD account (runs you around $12 per month, billed quarterly), you instantly get access to many titles for no extra cost.
For example, you get all of the P90X series of workouts by Tony Horton (including P90X, P90X2 and P90X3), a HUGE value. Additionally, you get all of the Insanity workouts by Shaun T. It’s a really sweet deal stock, out of the box (so to speak).
Challenge Du Jour
The other really nifty feature that I think makes the service worth its salt, is the “Challenge Du Jour”. You see it when you first log in:
You get a different workout per day, taken from many different programs and trainers. However, it follows a pattern. For example, today was Tony Horton’s Yoga X from the P90X3 program:
Each day has a different type of workout. For example, Mondays are “Plyo Cardio,” Tuesdays are “Lower Body”, Wednesdays are “Cardio,” etc. And if you miss a workout, you can catch roughly a week’s worth of backlog in the “Previous Workouts” section. The thing is, you get to sample some premium programs that you might not have access to, and that is really nice. They draw from existing released programs, BOD exclusives and Master Trainer workouts. This makes it a very well rounded program that really has no end. Think of it as a giant mix tape.
Beachbody On Demand Exclusives
The all-star professional trainers that Beachbody employs also post content to “BOD Exclusives”, only available on BOD (as the name implies). For example, Sagi has a corner available for you to dig deeper and build yet more muscle:
Likewise, Autumn Calebrese and Tony Horton have areas with their personal workouts that can help you supplement the regular offerings:
So you always have something to do, even when you’re between Beachbody programs.
The Master Trainers
Speaking of being in between Beachbody programs, Beachbody has also made a foray into live classes. Certified trainers are qualified to lead classes in P90X Live, Insanity Live, Turbo Kick Live and PiYo Live. And BOD has some of these videos online for your use:
This allows you to get access to completely different trainers for a fresh perspective. And these people deliver, let me tell you. I’m always happy to learn more about proper form, and to get a shot of fresh energy.
The Main Programs
Of course, a BOD tour would not be complete without the main course: the Beachbody official programs! The main screen looks a bit like this:
The top row contains purchased programs–those programs not available with a base BOD subscription. For example, I bought 21 Day Fix, Focus T25 and PiYo before I first signed up for BOD. The system is smart enough to know what you already own, and it will give you streaming access.
The middle row is the default programs available on BOD.
Now the last row allows you to preview existing content you don’t already own. You can “unlock” certain programs like Body Beast and Cize, and those will live exclusively on BOD. However, the other programs (like 21 Day Fix Extreme, or Hammer and Chisel), those require that you go to the Teambeachbody.com store and purchase the full product. This means that the DVDs will be shipped to you, but you will also have streaming access to them on BOD.
So I hope that this gives you a good idea about the offerings on Beachbody on Demand. It’s an excellent service that has been a long time coming. Once you start using it, you’ll never want to go back to juggling DVD media again… And pushing “Play” just got easier!
